It is made of butternut, which is related to walnut, and the grain is very similar, but butternut is a bit lighter in colour. In the top and the shelf are marble tiles.

The drawers are dovetailed, of course; in fact, I did it the old-fashioned way, using a new-fangled method. The old-fashioned way is to cut half-blind dovetails in the front, and through dovetails in the back; this was done in the olden days because through dovetails are easier to cut by hand than half-blind, so they were used wherever they wouldn't be seen. I cut them with a router, though, which made it a bit more complicated than if I had used half-blind dovetails all the way around. The drawers also have solid wood bottoms, because I didn't have any butternut plywood.
